Living an uncluttered life...answering the callings of our soul

This makes so much sense to me…for it is when my mind is still and I am fully present I can hear the callings of my soul. In the last few months I have been intentionally setting times aside and silencing the outer distractions of life so that I can access my intuition while painting and journaling.

Having a little ritual has really helped this….I come into my studio, light some incense and my salt candle on my desk, sometimes find a relaxing playlist on Spotify or sit in silence, then meditate and open up my soul. For me ,accessing my soul is really about eliminating as many distractions as possible, calming my breathing and then just listening…after a while my monkey brain calms down and I’m in that peaceful place…where there are no expectations, no striving, no ego….just peace and calm….

It has taken me a while to be able to tune out effectively and quickly. As a singer I’m used to running on adrenaline, in fact, it was so bad in my 20’s that my body went into complete adrenalin overload…not pretty. I’ll write a blog post about that one day.

Thank goodness I’m finally better at it now and I really have floatation therapy to thank for that. Honestly, it’s been such a struggle for me to relax…I can even be planning my next 5 years while I’m on a massage table..

The only thing that healed me of this was total sensory deprivation…ie floating in a floatation tank.

It’s not for everyone, but it sure did work for me. I can now pretty easily remember the steps that I take in the float tank to let go of everything of this world and embrace what’s beyond…..connection with spirit and then connection with my soul.

I’m truly fascinated with the connection between the soul and creativity…..and excited about another intention that I have set this year to delve deeper into intuition and creating from an intuitive place. I look forward to sharing what unfolds. The background to this quote is an example….batik watercolour on rice paper…where I just let my soul lead me, directing the brush filled with wax and then the choice of colours…trying hard to not make too many conscious decisions.

My prayer for you friends is that you too will be able to find ways to un-clutter your life because the joy of hearing your authentic self speak and the peace that you find from answering the callings of your soul is beyond comprehension.
