Last Saturday, 12 women joined me for the first online creativity and connection art class. My heart was singing as I watched these wonderful ladies creating and chatting away. The best part for me was catching up with friends, some who I hadn’t seen for 10 years.
There were friends from Coffs Harbour, Boat Harbour, the Mornington Peninsula even as far as Vancouver Canada as well as of course many areas of Sydney.
There is a high level of anxiety throughout communities worldwide at the moment as we all deal with this pandemic and the subsequent quarantine and isolation measures. A lot of us are at home trying to balance family life, study and work…so I’m offering a new approach to singing lessons to help combat cabin fever, loneliness and boredom. Singing for wellness!
We live in such amazing times of technical connectivity and yet there is an epidemic of loneliness, restlessness and disconnection. Could this disconnection actually be the result of a disconnect from our souls. Surely we are body, mind and spirit….and yet many struggle to connect with their spirit in a conscious and ongoing way.
Over the weekend I was the guest speaker at a beautiful women’s breakfast event at Northside Church in Crows Nest, Sydney.
I spoke about Connection and creativity : Mindfulness for the New Year (photos to come)
It was really the first time I was able to bring my speaking, singing and artwork together at one event to share the stirrings of my soul. I began my talk with a Stillness Reflection that I had written one morning in January, I thought I’d include the reflection here as many women were asking if I could share it again.
Just like birds we all have a song to sing….but some people just haven’t found their voice yet……
As I mentioned in my post last week, I’ve set an intention this year to ‘live lighter’.
I’m already feeling the benefits of letting go and surrendering to the stirrings within my soul ( as I let go of trying to control outcomes or playing things safe ) ….I’m finding that in letting go of rigid ways of thinking and staying open to what I intrinsically know and feel is true in my heart and soul, that I am actually receiving so much more in return, including a beautiful sense of oneness with spirit which brings peace and flow.
There’s always a little spot on my morning walk where I have to stop and take photos. I’m in love with gum blossoms, even when they are incubating these divine flowers. But it’s like the flowers knew that we all needed a bit of cheering up after the past 3 months of catastrophic fires, extreme heat and drought here in Australia. These particular gums have just exploded into flower and the rainbow lorikeets are rejoicing!
“It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.” C.S Lewis
